Boulder Police Department release:

Police investigate possible attempted abduction

Boulder police are investigating a possible attempted abduction that was reported this morning, Wednesday, May 13, by a fifth-grader at Mesa Elementary School, 1575 Lehigh St.

The boy told school officials that he was walking with his scooter to school along Lafayette Drive when a truck pulled up beside him. Someone in the truck started to open the door and say something that the boy did not hear or understand. The child ran from the area and immediately informed employees at the school about the suspicious incident.

The vehicle is described as a blue pickup truck with a camper shell. Law enforcement officials do not know at this point what the intention was of the person in the vehicle, but police are continuing to investigate. Officers will be conducting extra patrols in the area of the school to help keep students safe.
