Once I finally made it into the Pepsi Center on Tuesday evening, I was directed toward section 106 -- press row. The area has a couple of significant advantages over other spots in the arena. For one thing, it has power -- the electrical kind, not the political brand -- so reporters don't have to rely on batteries to keep going. For another, it's relatively protected from assaults by people in weird hats waving banners that could also be used for jousting. But being isolated at a political convention sort of misses the point, doesn't it? Better to get down on the floor, where the close quarters at least give the approximation of activity, even when nothing of actual substance is taking place. -- Michael Roberts
