Around 11:40 p.m. on the 26th, DCSO personnel responded to the home, where a male resident had allegedly been assaulted while he was sleeping. An arrest report obtained by 9News identifies the victim as Gregory's grandfather. His wrist was broken in the attack, apparently after he was clobbered with a large flashlight.
The affidavit maintains that Gregory had previously stolen jewelry from her grandparents' place, and she's accused of persuading her former boyfriend, twenty-year-old Timothy Jayne, and two other men -- Dalton Evans and Holden Verdos, both twenty as well -- to swipe more from the location.
After the crime, Evans was found hiding in bushes near the home, and the police report quotes him during a subsequent sit-down as revealing that he was part of a "break-in group" formed with Jayne and Verdos while the three of them were staying at a homeless shelter.The three men took a bus to the location and decided to invade the home whether it was unoccupied or not, the affidavit states -- and after injuring Gregory's grandfather, they're said to have made off with a number of baubles. Some of them were pawned, while others were allegedly worn by Verdos while he was being interviewed by the cops after his arrest the next day, when Jayne and Gregory were fitted with cuffs, too. The four are suspected of offenses that include first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, conspiracy and crimes against an at-risk adult.
Bonds placed on the quartet were hefty: $250,000 for Jayne, $50,000 apiece for Evans and Verdos and $45,000 for Gregory. At a hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. tomorrow at the Douglas County Justice Center, they're expected to be formally charged. Here's a look at their booking photos.
