But, Doug, you are not one of them.
"If they want to put me in that company, it's an unwitting compliment," he added.
Wrong again.
Bruce, an anti-tax crusader, former legislator and author of the TABOR amendment was convicted last year of attempting to influence a public servant, tax evasion and filing a false tax return. On Friday, he was handcuffed and sent to jail for six months, where he will be in the company of other felons (but few political prisoners).
He was also sentenced to six years of probation in which he will have to divulge the details of his finances to authorities. But he was so ornery during the course of the trial that the judge called his behavior "reprehensible" and said she doubts Bruce will be able to meet the terms of his probation or be successful in that endeavor.
Of course, acting like an ass is nothing new to Bruce.
His behavior has always been terrible -- something that has earned him Shmuck of the Week honors at least four times before. His brief tenure at the State Capitol alone was marked by his attempt to delay his swearing in; his calling migrant farm workers "illiterate peasants"; and his kicking of a Rocky Mountain News photographer.
But comparing himself to a political prisoner? That deserves a sentence all its own.
