Moments ago, at the order of Senior District Judge J. Robert Lowenbach, 1999 grand jury documents accusing John and Patsy Ramsey of criminal conduct in the death three years earlier of their six-year-old daughter, JonBenet, were made public.

The pages were released as the result of a lawsuit filed by Boulder Daily Camera reporter Charlie Brennan and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. There are two indictments of each parent, including child abuse resulting in death.

No action was taken in regard to the indictments: As noted in the Daily Camera's coverage, Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter declined to sign them and subsequently announced that he wouldn't file any charges owing to what he described as a lack of evidence.

The pair of two-page documents obtained by the Camera are identical with the exception of the names. Count IV (a) for Patsy (who died of cancer in 2006) reads:
On or between December 25, and December 26, 1996, in Boulder County, Colorado, Patricia Paugh Ramsey did unlawfully, knowingly, recklessly and feloniously permit a child to be unreasonably placed in a situation which posed a threat of injury to the child's life or health, which resulted in the death of JonBenet Ramsey, a child under the age of sixteen.
The count: child abuse resulting in death.

The second charge, listed as Count VII, involves acting as an accessory. Here's how the one pertaining to John reads:

On or about December 25, and December 26, 1996 in Boulder County, Coloraado, John Benett Ramsey did unlawfully, knowingly and feloniously render assistance to a person, with intent to hinder, delay and prevent the discovery, detention, apprehension, prosecution, conviction and punishment of such person for the commission of a crime, knowing the person being assisted has committed and was suspected of the crime of Murder in the First Degree and Child Abuse Resulting in Death.
