Learning Colorado's Legal Pot Lessons and Other Big Marijuana Events

Last week, we told you about the city of Denver's Marijuana Management Symposium, where politicians and potential regulators from around the globe will listen to some of Colorado's legal marijuana administrators share their experiences with taking on the world's first major legal cannabis market. On Thursday, November 5, and Friday, November 6, at the Colorado Convention Center, Director of Colorado Marijuana Coordination Andrew Freedman, Lewis Koski of the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division, Denver Executive Director of Marijuana Policy Ashley Kilroy and representatives from the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment will all be on hand to educate other bigwigs about Denver's first two years on the legal pot trip. Tickets range from $125 to $175.

For many professionals in the health-care industry, practicing with medical marijuana is a quick way to get ostracized. This week's CBD Outlook Conference is hoping to change that, one person at a time. Taking place at the Greenhouse on Saturday, November 7, this conference will bring in eighteen national experts on recreational and medical marijuana to discuss legal issues, cannabinoids, hemp harvests, the looming California market, scientific research on terpenes and more. Tickets start at $279, but students and med-card holders get in for $129. Tickets include a luncheon and some hemp goodies to take home.

The Cannabis Hemp Academy is hosting its Cannabis Legal Seminar on Friday, November 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. in room 204 of the Wolf Law Building at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Marijuana attorneys Robert Corry, Matthew Buck and Steven Woodrow will update students about the current legal state of medical and recreational marijuana and hemp. Topics covered include RICO civil lawsuits filed against cannabis businesses, pesticide use on cannabis, criminal marijuana defense, the state of industrial hemp, and local marijuana tax issues. Attendance is free, but Continuing Legal Education credit is available for $25.

Green Labs, 1250 31st Street, is hosting its monthly budtender appreciation night on Friday, November 6, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. The free event is a social and networking opportunity for all levels of employees in the cannabis industry. Everyone from budtenders to dispensary owners is encouraged to attend and talk shop.


Put your nostrils to the test at the Trichome Institute's Interpening Cannabis Sommelier Course on Tuesday, November 10, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m at Colorado Free University. Just like a wine-tasting course, this hands-on class will teach students how to smell the differences between cannabis strains and detect unacceptable qualities in flower. Cost is $299. Licensed industry employees and groups of five or more should inquire about discounts. 21+

Clover Leaf University is rolling out a Cannabis Extraction Laboratory class on Tuesday, November 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the CLU campus. The class will focus on extraction safety, room layouts, efficient working environments and government compliance. The class costs $299 to attend, and certificates from CLU and the Colorado Department of Higher Education will be presented upon course completion. 

CLU is also teaching its Cannabis Breeding 101: Expert Strain Breeding and Genetics course on Tuesday, November 10, at the CLU campus from 4 to 8 p.m. For $299, students will learn about the genetics and manipulation of cannabis strains from growing professionals. After you pass, you should know how to efficiently breed marijuana no matter what the scale of your desired grow.
