The saga of Ferris the stolen dachshund has a happy ending -- for everyone except the trio who swiped him. Thanks to the Boulder Police Department's energetic efforts to locate the parties who spirited the pooch away from the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, a good Samaritan who'd been asked to watch him heard about the crime and returned the walking sausage to the Humane Society in time to star in the Boulder Daily Camera video above. On Friday, Ferris was adopted into a good home, and later that day, the cops identified, busted and booked alleged dognappers Serina Ojala, Daniel Kitlitz and Matthew Dailey for theft of an item valued at less than $500 -- although Ferris is clearly worth much more than that in sheer love.

The suspects were located in the area of 17th Street and Arapahoe Avenue at about 9:10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28.

The suspects have been identified as: Serina Emily Ojala, 18, a transient who has been staying in the Lafayette area; Daniel Michael Kitlitz, 21, also a transient; and Matthew Louis Dailey, 22, of Longmont.

They were booked into the Boulder County Jail on charges of theft under $500.
