Liberty Ledezma, Mile High Murder No. 78: Young mom dies in suspected arson incident

Update, 4:16 p.m., March 30: The Thornton Police Department has now formally identified Liberty Ledezma as the victim in the Star Point condo complex fire. See the TPD release after the original item, published on March 29.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the young woman who died on Saturday in fire at the Star Point condo complex, 8701 N. Huron Street in Thornton. But 9News is reporting that the victim was Liberty Ledezma, 22 -- the mother of a three-year old.

Moreover, the Thornton Police Department is leaving no doubt as to its suspicions about the fire. Its release on the incident is labeled "Homicide Investigation/Arson."

Homicide Investigation /Arson

On 03-27-10, at approximately 11:38 am, Thornton Police and Fire were dispatched to the Star Point Condominiums, 8701 N. Huron Street, building #10, in reference to a structure fire. Police and Fire personnel arrived on scene and discovered unit # 105 fully engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished and determined to be suspicious in nature and of an unknown origin.

At approximately 2:30 pm, Fire Arson Investigators notified the Thornton Police Department that they had discovered a deceased victim inside the unit. At this time the victim is unidentified, and no approximate age, race, or sex has been determined. The cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy by the Adams County Coroner's Office. The victim's identity is pending positive identification by the Coroner' Office.

14 tenants of Building #10 have been displaced due to the fire. The Red Cross has helped find temporary housing for the displaced residents.

Thornton Police Detective Division has initiated a Homicide investigation in to the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

Update, 4:16 p.m., March 30: Here's the latest release from the Thornton Police Department, formally identifying Liberty Ledezma as the victim in the fire described above.

Star Point Condominiums -- Arson/Homicide Investigation Update

The victim has been positively identified by the Adams County Coroners Office as:

Liberty Ledezma 8701 N. Huron Street Thornton, CO. Date of Birth: 09-16-87

The official cause of death is still pending further autopsy tests by the Adams County Coroners Office.

The case remains an active Arson/Homicide investigation.
