Where are you watching tonight's vice-presidential debate?
The Denver Young Democrats, the Foreign Policy Professionals for Obama and the Young Lawyers for Obama are holding a debate-watching party at Sengers on the Fax, at 3014 East Colfax Avenue. The ACLU is hosting a watch party -- free, but donations accepted for the “No on 48” campaign -- at Hamburger Mary's, 700 East 17th Avenue. And Drinking Liberally will be raising a glass or ten during the debate at the Skylark, 140 South Broadway.
At the opposite end of town -- and the hipness scale -- the Arapahoe County Republican Party is holding a debate-watching gathering at Cool River Cafe, 8000 East Belleview Avenue in Greenwood Village. There's also a party at McCain-Palin South Central Regional Headquarters, at 6334 South Racine Circle in Centennial.
But even though Senator John McCain will be in the area -- he's hosting a town-hall meeting at the downtown Sheraton at 4 p.m. today -- don't expect him to watch the debate at his own campaign headquarters, or any of the parties officially open to the public.
When I asked a Colorado press contact where McCain would be during the debate, he declined to provide any details. But I'm willing to bet that wherever McCain watches, it will not be in the middle of a crowd of people who can look his way whenever Sarah Palin pegs her foreign-affairs expertise to Putin's planes flying over her Alaska home. -- Patricia Calhoun
