Even though I don't remember the day because I was so blazed.
It had been a while since I last had a Mountain Medicine treat, but I recently caught word that the company is now making chocolate cake and hash brownies. So I headed to a nearby dispensary to see if the crew was still whipping up the same high potency baked goods.
I went in to grab just a cake and a brownie, but it turns out the dispensary was running a special, so I received a both a free cherry pie bar and a free blueberry bar that took third place in the High Times Medical Cannabis Cup last spring. Walking away with a total of four edibles, ranging from two to four doses each, I knew I was going to have a good week. The hash brownie packed .25 mg of cannabis weight with a dose being one-fourth the tiny snack. The chocolate cake recommends half the .5 mg treat per dose. All I could think about when eating the brownies was how badly I wanted to smoother it in chocolate syrup and put it on top of some ice cream. Of all the cannabis brownies I've had in my life, this remains the most delicious and effective. The same goes for the chocolate cake, which is basically a richer, flatter version of the brownie with frosting on top.The pie bars, which also come in lemon and cinna-apple, are made with .75 mg of THC; one-fourth of the pie is recommended per dose. Though I consider myself a heavyweight in terms of edible potency, I stuck to just barely above the recommended doses with all these edibles.
That turned out to be a good thing, because Mountain Medicine's edible highs are strong and long and if I had eaten much more of any one, I'd have been too medicated to function. Head chef "Jamie" tells me the company makes its products with sweet leaf, cold water Ingrid Hash and CO2 oil. "I focus on making consistent products that are highly effective," she says.
Mountain Medicine's current menu also includes cookies, peanut butter cups and tinctures, but having tried the pie bars, brownie and cake, I can say the crew at Mountain Medicine has perfected taste and potency in these house-made treats, all of which average around $10 a package. A few dispensaries, including Natural Remedies and Good Chemistry, have been known to run some killer deals -- usually buy one, get one free. Not that these bars need a deal. To me, they are fully worth their price.
