Most of us were able to celebrate Independence Day without capping each other -- but not everyone. Earlier today, we told you about a slaying late yesterday on the 1700 block of Billings Street in Aurora. Now comes word from the Denver Police Department about an exchange of gunfire that resulted in one death -- this one taking place at 14954 East Elk Place, in an area captured in the graphic above (if you have problems seeing the image, click "View Larger Map"). At the time of the latest DPD release, the second man involved in the shooting was in stable condition at Denver Health. Read the official account below.
On July 4, 2009, at approximately 11:04 p.m. Denver Police received a 911 call regarding a shooting at 14954 East Elk Place in the Montbello area. When police arrived on scene they found two male victims who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The second victim was transported to Denver Health Medical Center where he remains in stable condition. Through the investigation it was learned the victims were neighbors who got into an argument. Both men obtained weapons and shot each other. This incident is being investigated by the Denver Police Department. The identification of the victims is not being released at this time pending further investigation.
