Photos: Larry Vo arrested in brutal hit-and-run near Maxim Lounge, Pho 96

Update: The brutal hit-and-run that took place during the wee hours of Sunday, March 3, near Pho 96, located close to the intersection of Federal and Mississippi, was originally said to have injured three people, two critically. But in the wake of our previous coverage, on view below in its entirety, Denver police revealed that a fourth person had been hurt, too, walking away from the scene but suffering a concussion. Now, however, we've got an even bigger development: Larry Vo, 26, has been busted in the crime after turning himself in to authorities.

The search for a silver, gray or white Honda Civic captured in a surveillance photo has been ongoing since the weekend -- and a few additional clues were left behind, including this license-plate holder:

Still, the case remained open until cops received a call from what a DPD release refers to as "the suspect driver...wanting to turn himself in."

The driver turned out to be Vo, who subsequently met detectives working the case. Also recovered: the vehicle thought to be involves in the crash, a silver 2002 Honda Civic Hatchback. It was found at a location in southeast Denver.

Vo is being held on suspicion of vehicular assault, reckless driving, hit-and-run -- leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, and careless driving. The release notes that the department is not looking for any other suspects in the incident, which critically injured a thus-far-unidentified elderly couple and seriously hurt another person in addition to the concussion victim.

Continue for our previous coverage of the hit-and-run, including photos and video. Original post, 8:56 a.m. March 4: Last week, fifth-grade teacher and poet Erin Jackson was arrested for a shocking hit-and-run that critically injured an East High School student as she was walking to school.

The circumstances of the city's latest shocking hit-and-run are far different, and the number of people hurt higher: Three people were hospitalized, with two in critical condition, after an incident near Pho 96 restaurant.

Update: CBS4 originally reported that a fight started outside the Maxim Lounge around its 2 a.m. closing time, moving from the venue's parking lot into Mississippi near the Federal intersection. However, the venue's owner, Ivy Vo (no relation to Larry Vo, the person who turned himself in for the hit and run) says this is inaccurate. While a fight did occur, it didn't involve start inside Maxim Lounge, take place in the venue's parking lot or involve any of its customers to her knowledge -- and she's got footage from a surveillance camera to prove it.

Then, as if that wasn't chaotic enough, a vehicle described as a silver, gray or white Honda Civic with a ski rack struck three people in the parking lot of Pho 96, across the street at 2990 West Mississippi.

The driver of the vehicle is thought to be a person who was involved in the fight, left the scene, then came back.

Denver Police subsequently tweeted information and photos of the suspect vehicle. Here's the first tweet....

In the beginning, there was suspicion that the Honda had deliberately targeted the three individuals, but that doesn't appear to be the case at this point. CBS4 describes two of the victims as an elderly couple, with the third person being younger. At most recent report, the former pair were in critical condition, while the condition of the latter was described as serious.

Everyone's favorite pho parlor -- Pho 95, which has locations on South Federal Boulevard and Streets at SouthGlenn -- has a new sibling. The space at 2990 West Mississippi, which was the original Chopsticks China Bistro (and, after that, one of those sub-par $1.25-a-scoop Chinese travesties), is now Pho 96.

The restaurant, which trumpets a menu that's very similar to that of Pho 95, is owned by Tony Le -- the brother of Aaron Le, who runs Pho 95 -- and his wife, Lihn Lam, both of whom did time at the Pho 95 on Federal. "Tony used to cook at Pho 95, and most of the recipes are the same," says Lam, adding that her husband wakes up at 4 a.m. every morning to make the pho broths. "It takes five hours to make the stocks, which may explain why he never cooks at home," she jokes.

Tony Lee, who used to run Pho 95 with his brother, Aaron, now has his own pho house. The name, says Lam, is representative of the year that Tony came to the United States: 1996. "In Vietnam, we always choose a number, rather than a name, for the pho places, and 1996 really means something to Tony, so that's why we chose it."
