Coach Arrested for Inappropriate Sexual Contact with TeenAurora, Colo. -- A 35-year-old Englewood man is facing serious charges after being arrested by Aurora Police in connection with inappropriate sexual contact involving an underage teen girl.
On October 19, 2009, James Curtis Craig III, DOB: 5/8/74, was arrested by the Department's Fugitive Apprehension and Surveillance Team (F.A.S.T.) at his place of employment for sex assault on a child by one in a position of trust and unlawful sexual contact.
On September 16, 2009, the Crimes Against Children Unit (CACU) began an investigation into allegations that Craig, who is a gymnastics coach at the Saddle Rock School of Gymnastics located at 5940 S. Gun Club Road in Aurora, inappropriately touched a teen girl during a training class.
Craig is being held at the Arapahoe County Jail for bond in the amount of $50,000. Management for the gymnastics school is cooperating with investigators and assisting in the investigation.
During the course of ensuing investigation, CACU detectives learned that Craig had worked at the Saddle Rock School of Gymnastics as a coach since 2007 when it first opened. Craig is believed to have had access to kids under the age of eighteen while employed as a coach at this facility and may have worked as a coach at other similar gyms in the Denver Metro area. Based on these facts and others not disclosed but known to detectives, it is believed there may be additional victims who have yet to contact law enforcement.
An arrest photo of James Craig has been sent along with this news release in an effort to aid parents and identify possible additional victims.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call CACU Detective Sue Wynn at (303) 739-6208.
