The victim of a fatal stabbing during the early morning hours of Friday is being identified by friends and family as Ryan Haldeman, 28.

As police search for the killer (see the description below), Haldeman's loved ones are grappling with the terrible aftermath of this senseless crime.

At about 2:17 a.m. on Friday, according to the Denver Police Department, officers responded to the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Street -- the location of Pub on Penn. There, they found an adult male victim -- Haldeman -- suffering from what are described as "apparent sharp-force injuries." He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The DPD describes the suspect in the homicide as a six-feet-tall, 180-pound black male between the ages of twenty and 45, with a dark complexion and salt-and-pepper facial stubble. He is said to have worn a blue or black coat and white pants and allegedly fled the area near Pub on Penn in a northwest direction toward East 14th Avenue.

Haldeman's sister spoke to CBS4 from Iowa and shared the following image and note on her Facebook page:

My brother, Ryan Haldeman, was murdered Thursday night in Denver. I don't know what to say, or do. He was the most amazing person; everything about him was peaceful, benevolent, kind and luminous. He loved working with kids, making music and the universe. He was a person whose spirit was cosmic, like he was from another planet. I miss him so much. I miss him so much already. I hope that he was not in pain, or scared, when he left his body. I hope he is free now....
Similar sentiments were expressed to CBS4 by people who knew and admired Haldeman -- and some were so emotionally distraught by the incident that they didn't feel comfortable speaking on camera.

Anyone with details about Haldeman's death is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 72-913-STOP (7867). A reward of up to $2,000 is offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of his murderer.
