The United States Postal Service announced last week that Denver will be the new hub for mail going to and from Alaska -- meaning we get to see Sarah Palin's mail before she does. News of this cost-saving measure prompted a stern letter from Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, who doesn't think Denver can't handle that kind of responsibility: "I am extremely concerned to learn that there does not appear to be any transition or training plan for transferring this knowledge and experience to the Denver operation," she said. "Placing the responsibility for intra-Alaska mail and bypass mail service in the hands of untrained personnel two thousand miles and two time zones away without a clear sense of our Alaska's routes and challenges may help the Postal Service's bottom line but will impact our vast state's economy and connectedness," she added.

Uh, yeah, right. Then again, maybe Murkowski has a point.

Our postal workers have had their share of trouble lately. In 2010, for instance, Highlands Ranch mail handler David Schmauder was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing more than 11,000 packages and selling whatever was in them. And we won't even mention the Durango mailman who spit his own poop at a cop or the Avon postal employee who flashed two women.

But the real trouble here is Palin. You betcha it is!

The former Alaska governor was just in Colorado - speaking at a Colorado Christian University rally in Lakewood on May 2 -- and that is plenty. The last thing we need is more of her words. So thanks, USPS, thanks a lot!

Dear Sarah,

I can see Kansas from my house. Wish you weren't here.

Love,

Denver
