It's been a busy couple of weeks for Denver film. For starters, we're smack in the middle of the Starz Denver Film Festival. And last week, the locally filmed cult fantasy INK received a huge publicity boost after it popped up on various torrent servers, which probably won't make a ton of money for its filmmakers but will definitely spread the word about this unique film in one of the best possible ways.

Now, another Denver-based film has a chance to reach the masses. The local flick Skills Like This comes out on DVD today.

Skills, which won the coveted Audience Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival before being released nationwide, may look a bit similar to indie crime capers like Bottle Rocket. But according to Monty Miranda, the Denver boy behind the film, who spoke with Westword at length about the movie around the time it first reached theaters, it keeps its own vibe in part because it was filmed in the Mile High City.

The Denver connections come across loud and clear. Pick up a copy to spot landmarks like the Bug Theatre and a (recreated) Señor Burrito -- or just to support Colorado filmmakers who keep things close to home.
