Are you one of those people who loves to talk, but no one wants to listen? Well, we've got good news for you: There are at least three organizations in Denver that want your story.
The first is StoryCorps, a national initiative to document everyday history and the unique stories of Americans; you might have heard some of those stories on NPR's Friday Morning Edition. The StoryCorps MobileBooth, an Airstream trailer pimped out with a recording studio (pictured), parks at Skyline Park, 17th and Arapahoe Streets, from July 17 through August 8 (they'll start accepting reservations for interview slots on July 18). The second is Fresh City Life, which is putting together a short documentary and a children's chorus jazz-chamber orchestra number based on your responses to questions about your beliefs. "There are two goals going here," explains Fresh City Life’s Dr. Audrey Sprenger: "for people to remind everyone who they are, but also to remind people participating that we are these institutions that we rely on during this election year. We all make up these institutions that we use. We’re really looking for a multilingual, intergenerational audience." Visit the I Believe booth at the Rocky Mountain PBS Kids Fun Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, or at the library itself, 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. And last but not least, Denver Story Trek is launching on Saturday, July 19; head to the Governor's Residence at Boettcher Mansion, 400 East Eighth Avenue, at 10 a.m. for the kick-off event. The Trek involves visiting a range of Denver neighborhoods and landmarks, including the Cherry Creek Bike Path, Civic Center Park and five "hubs," Four Mile Historic Park, the Byers-Evans House Museum, the Molly Brown House Museum, Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art and the Black American West Museum. While on the Trek, special Trek Connect signs at each of the hubs will prompt you to dial a phone number to hear the site's official history, plus the memories of other trekkers, and you'll have the opportunity to share your own memories of the landmark.
Kick-off event attendees get a Trek Connect ticket, good for free admission to all five "hub" museums through August 31. You can get stamps at each museum, and tickets with all five stamps are eligible for entry for a grand-prize drawing (mail or deliver those to the Molly Brown House Museum, 1340 Pennsylvania Street, Denver, 80203).
