As evidence, check out "To the driver whose way I so rudely blocked," recently shared on the Denver Craigslist Rants & Raves section on the topic of being tailgated in a left turn lane even though the author was traveling over the speed limit by a double-digit amount.

To the driver whose way I so rudely blocked (Denver)

Hello Mr. Driver:

I just wanted to apologize for driving in the left lane of Colorado Blvd. near Hampden tonight and only going 10 miles over the speed limit. I know I blocked your way for at least 5 seconds, until I could get into the left turn lane and, thus, out of your way. I can't tell you how sorry I am to have impeded your progress home. You were completely justified in tailgating me so closely that if I had braked you would have rear-ended me, and of course you were justified in leaning on your horn, to let me know how rude I was being. I am so sorry, I just don't know how I can ever live with myself. I hope that the next time anyone gets in your way, for any reason, anytime, anywhere, you will act in similar fashion. And if they happen to also be as big as an asshole as you are, and if they happen to have a gun, maybe they'll cap you and the world will have one less dickhead to deal with. Have a great day, you fucking asshole.
