Update: 17-Year-Old Busted for Thornton Double Homicide

Update: The Thornton Police Department has just announced that a seventeen-year-old is in custody regarding yesterday's double homicide at the Renaissance 88 Apartments; see our previous coverage below.

The suspect's name is not being released at this time owing to his age.

This may not be the last arrest in the case. "Other persons of interest are still being determined," the TPD notes.

Original post, 6;15 a.m.: Another shocking act of violence has shaken the Denver metro area.

Two men were shot to death yesterday evening outside an apartment complex in Thornton.

Right now, representatives of the Thornton Police Department stress that there's no danger to the public at large and add that they're talking to three "people of interest" in the case — which implies that they believe they know the individual or individuals who took these lives.

Here's what we know thus far.

At approximately 6:54 p.m. last night, July 9, according to the TPD, officers were dispatched to the Renaissance 88 Apartments on the 300 block of East 88th Avenue.

By the way, 9News notes that the Renaissance 88 is a subsidized housing complex, whose residents include former homeless folks rebuilding their lives or people with disabilities.

Upon their arrival, officers found the two victims outside the apartments.


One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital — but he could not be saved.

At this writing, neither victim has been identified. The cops aren't even sure if they're both adults, although they're thought to be.

Throughout the evening and into the night, investigators quizzed what are characterized as "multiple witnesses."

In addition, "three people of interest...are also being interviewed by detectives," the TPD points out.


A 7News report states that the public is not at risk. That's typically an indication arrests are imminent — but that's hardly a guarantee.
