Boone's Tavern has been a steadfast neighborhood sports bar near the University of Denver for years, taking over over the spot occupied by Fagan's for decades. Even after a makeover two years ago when the bar — named for DU Pioneer mascot Denver Boone — gave up part of its square footage so that the upscale eatery Atticus could open next door, the college-hangout vibe persisted. But in an effort to shift the space toward a more family-friendly neighborhood gathering spot, the Table to Tavern group has closed Boone's and will reopen the place on February 15 as the Rosedale.
An interior upgrade and a new menu come along with the name change. Co-owner Angie Mitbo says that the Rosedale will have an ambiance and menu similar to those at the group's third restaurant, Blackbird Public House, at the corner of Alameda Avenue and South Downing Street. But the new incarnation won't leave regulars and sports fans out in the cold; while the number of TVs will be reduced, the owners promise that the Rosedale will still be a great spot to watch the big games.
Meanwhile, Atticus next door is celebrating its two-year anniversary this week. Check the restaurant's website for upcoming specials, including Valentine's Day and Denver Restaurant Week deals.
