A statement on the restaurant's Craigslist help-wanted add indicates that the focus will be on draft beer and moonshine from across the country but did not specify the style of barbecue the kitchen plans to serve. Not much has changed on the exterior, but contractors are busy updating the spacious interior, which once included a small stage for live music and karaoke offered by a string of previous sports bars and nightclubs.
The location, at the meeting points of West Highland, LoHi and Jefferson Park, seems ripe for a quality neighborhood establishment. While surrounding blocks are exploding with new dining options, Federal Boulevard itself still leans toward Vietnamese and Mexican eateries and working-class diners. More dining diversity can only mean good things for the street's economy -- and for its residents.
