Pizza joint!

Brewpub!

It's both. It's a Breweria!

The father-an- son team of Tom and Mason Hembree are getting ready to open Dad & Dudes Breweria in Aurora later this month.

"The name is the result of a tug of war between my dad and I on whether we wanted to start a pizzeria or a brewery," Mason says. "We decided to shake hands and go with Breweria."

Located at 6730 South Cornerstar Way, near the intersection of Parker and Arapahoe roads, the place is going to come with a few twists that will make it stand out in the metro area beer scene - which is quickly on its way to becoming saturated.

For starters, they'll to serve four to six house-made beers alongside four beers created by homebrewing customers. "We are homebrewers ourselves," says Mason. "But we have more homebrewers who we found on Craigslist who will take over as brew masters."

The idea, he says, is to create a homebrewing club that would meet the Breweria and sample each other's creations. Then, the Hembree's paid brewmaster would take the recipes, make the beer on site and serve it.

Then there's the pizza. "It's a Colorado style of pizza with a thicker crust" Mason says, and it will be made using the spent barley from Dad & Dudes brewing process. In addition, the crust will be sweetened with agave nectar.

The Hembrees have also trademarked a couple of pizza names, including the PhilanthroPie (a portion of the proceeds from each will be donated to charity) and the 420Pizza, a pizza that feeds four (preferably with the munchies) for $20.

In addition to pizza, the Hembrees will have a full menu that includes, pasta, hoagies and panzerottis (a kind of calzone, Mason says).

And then there's the delivery. Dads & Dudes plans to deliver its pizza and its beer within a three-mile radius around the brewpub. "As long as the beer is brewed in house, the city is telling us we can do that," Mason says. "It's part of our brewpub license."

Aurora is already on the beer map when it comes to brewing, with both Dry Dock and Elk Mountain up and running there. Beer delivery just might make it the center of that map.
