Natural beauty, a Wild West history and some of the nation's best breweries: “These are the three things about Colorado that I love the most,” says Denver Business Journal reporter Ed Sealover. And he proves it with a series of ten three-day Colorado treks that he created for his new guide, Colorado Excursions With History, Hikes, and Hops, a handy book that's certain to capture the hearts of like-minded Coloradans and tourists.

“It's a bit of a love letter to Colorado, period,” he notes. “I tried to combine the 'no-duh' places you have to visit, like Rocky Mountain National Park or Odell Brewing, but I also tried to find-out-of-the-way stuff. It's a little of what you know and a little of what you maybe don’t know.”

Prime example? One expedition to Cripple Creek blends “leaf-peeping, a bordello museum and a small but good bar in the old laundry room of a former Catholic hospital,” Sealover teases. “But I also bounce people between places in some of them; one of the most ambitious ones goes to Ouray, Silverton and Telluride.”

You can use the book to plan a series of weekend trips, he says, “or if you're ambitious, you can just do all thirty days at the same time.” Ready to get started? Ed Sealover will talk about Colorado Excursions with History, Hikes, and Hops at 7 p.m. today, August 16, at the Tattered Cover Book Store, 2526 East Colfax Avenue. Admission is free, and the book, from History Press, will be available for purchase for $21.99. Learn more at tatteredcover.com.
