It wasn't that long ago that Edgewater was a restaurant wasteland, but over the past few years, the west side neighborhood, which borders Sloan's Lake, has become far more palatable, in part, because of restaurants like The Edge, a breakfast and lunch joint, overlooking the lake, that opened ten days ago at 2045 Sheridan Boulevard in the same mini-mall that provides square footage to The Cooler, Vina Pho & Grill and a Tamale Kitchen outpost.

The Edge is the sibling of Breakfast on Broadway, which opened in 2008 to appreciative audiences hankering for endless mimosas, Bloody Marys, smothered breakfast burritos, flapjacks, potato cakes, smoked Gouda grits, biscuits and gravy, Benedicts and hangover burgers, all of which you can get at The Edge. "It's the same everything, including the same recipes, plus really good Bloody Marys and bottomless mimosas," says owner Norm Hansen, who has a licensing agreement with Breakfast on Broadway owner/chef Val Erpelding to run the joint.

"We're starting out slow, and we haven't done any advertising, but already, just ten days after we opened, we're getting several repeat customers, including a lot of young professionals with babies, and once we start getting the word out, I think we're going to get busy, fast," predicts Hansen. "People in this neighborhood are definitely starving for a place like this."
