Fifteen Tastiest Events on Denver's Culinary Calendar, July 25-29

It's that time of year again: Colorado's own Rocky Ford cantaloupe will be rolling onto shelves at supermarkets near you starting today. Grab a few of these favorite melons, then check out the juicy culinary happenings around town, including these fifteen tasty events.

Monday, July 25 

The West End Tavern will crown a new Wing King during the restaurant's Wing King Challenge today. If you think you have what it takes to put down fifty wings in under thirty minutes, and do it faster than anyone else, you can register for the challenge for $25. If you win, you'll get free wings for a year, your framed mug shot on the wall and on the West End's website for eternity, and a $100 Big Red F gift card. Watch the latest episode of The Bachelorette at the ViewHouse Ballpark's watch party today. Current Bachelorette contestant Robby Hayes, along with former Bachelor contestants Lace Morris and Leah Block, will be in attendance, and the ViewHouse will be offering a $10 cheese plate and 50 percent off any bottle or glass of Francis Ford Coppola wine, as well as Coors Light specials. The Inventing Room will hold a Gobblefunk Dinner at 6 p.m. today. The five-course meal is $75, which includes drinks. Call 303-885-2802 for reservations. 

Frasca Food and Wine will explore the wines of Kermit Lynch with guest Charlie Humphries at the restaurant's Monday Night Wine Dinner tonight. The Monday dinners are $50 for four courses, not including optional wine pairings; call Frasca at 303-442-6966 to make your reservations.

Tuesday, July 26 

During the second annual Local Tastes at the Clyfford Still Museum, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, participating restaurants will serve up culinary interpretations of a piece of Still’s work. The museum will be open during the event, and there will be handcrafted cocktails as well as a whiskey tasting hosted by Leopold Bros. Cured West has teamed up with its neighbor, Fawn's Leap floral shop, to offer a four-session Home Economics Summer School. The third class runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today; register for the class by calling Cured West at 720-389-8096 or Fawn's Leap at 303-999-0935. Tuition is $55.

Take a bite out of Colfax during Tasty Colfax, which will take over the Bluebird District from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today. The restaurant crawl and block party will highlight over a dozen eateries and include live music, art and more. Hop Alley will host The Classics of Hop Alley, a communal dinner featuring regional Chinese dishes paired with drinks, at 6 p.m. today. For $48 you can indulge in the unlikely pairings of Chinese flavors with old- and new-world wines, as well as cocktails. Make reservations at 720-379-8340. 

History Buffs and Brews has been bringing happy hour and history together at History Colorado every Tuesday. During the weekly series, History Colorado, Great Divide Brewing Company and the Rendezvous Cafe offer $3 beer specials, tasty appetizers and a full bar, as well as the opportunity to engage with Colorado history and the museum’s collection. This week you can dive into Denver's seedier side during an adults-only, Collections After Dark edition of Buffs and Brews. Coohills' Beats on the Creek summer concert series continues from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today with a performance by the Moderators. The music is free; a portion of the proceeds from food and beverage sales will go to the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado, a nonprofit dedicated to helping Colorado fulfill its potential economically, environmentally and socially. Wednesday, July 27

Black Shirt Brewing's Pie and Beer Pairing takes place every fourth Wednesday of the month, from 6 to 9 p.m.; today you can sample four pie and beer pairings for just $20. For more information, check out the event's Facebook page. 

Firenze a Tavola will turn up the heat at a community table dinner at 6:30 p.m. today. The four-course meal will highlight all things spicy. Tickets are $33; call 303-561-0234 for reservations and more information.    

Thursday, July 28

The Palm Denver will hold a Robert Mondavi Winery tasting at 5:30 p.m. today. For $50 you'll get both wine and appetizers; see the event's Facebook page for more information.   

Friday, July 29

Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse is hosting a five-course Valdicava Wine Dinner at 6 p.m. today. The dinner is $400 per person; call the steakhouse at 303-796-0100.

Lou’s Food Bar is celebrating National Chicken Wing Day with a patio party at 5 p.m. today. The restaurant will offer 50-cent buffalo, jerk, bacon cheeseburger and raspberry habanero wings. This event will also double as the launch party for Lou's new Snack and Brew series, when a local craft beer will be paired with a Lou’s food special each month.
