Tonight will see a trio of special events. Pizzeria Locale in Boulder is launching a new weekly dinner series, Flour and Fire, at 7:30 p.m. The series is designed to showcase Pizzeria Locale's pizza oven, exploring traditional southern Italian cooking "al forno," with head pizzaiolo, Matt Perez, leading the way. The dinner is $45; call 303-442-3003 for more information. If you'd rather try new tastes in Denver tonight, keep reading for two more options.

Tonight Lola is hosting Buffalo Bill's Dinner, "an evening inspired by Buffalo Bill, Colorado's culinary and agriculture history, and Mexican heritage." The menu replicates the one Buffalo Bill served at the country's first Mexican restaurant, which he opened outside of his Wild West Show in New York City in 1886 -- with several modern twists. Chef Kevin Grossi has pulled together the meal, with help from Michael Baute at Spring Kite Farm. And since this is taking place at Lola, there will be plenty of mezcal and tequila, of course. Steve Friesen of Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave and Gustavo Arellano, author of Ask a Mexican, will both speak about William F. Cody, who died on January 12, 1917, and was put on ice until the ground thawed on Lookout Mountain -- in the mortuary that is now home to Lola. Dinner starts at 7 p.m. and tickets, $50 are sold out; to see if there are any openings, call 720-570-8686.

There should still be room at the second round in Lower48 Kitchen's new Tuesday Tastings series, featuring special, three-course, $36 meals by chef Alex Figura at the Best New Restaurant in 2014. Tonight's theme is Smoke: "channel the middle of summer in the dead of winter with smoked meats, vegetables, and more." Call 303-942-0262 to make a reservation.
