From DSTILL to Dos Casas, the Twelve Tastiest Events on the Culinary Calendar This Week

DSTILL is back for a third round of spirited events celebrating this state's craft-spirits businesses, the eighth Dos Casas will raise money and hope for Brent's Place, and the Denver Flea will kick off its new season with a spring fling full of food and drink. Keep reading for a taste of what's on the culinary calendar this week.

Monday, April 13

Frasca Food and Wine will play host to the wines of Brunello di Montalcino with guest Marco Paier at its Monday Night Wine Dinner Series event tonight.  The Monday Night Wine Dinners are $50 per person for four courses, not including optional wine pairings. Ambli Gourmet Eatery & Wine is holding a wine tasting dinner to benefit PlatteForum, a non-profit organization that supports artists and at-risk youth in Denver through programs that allow kids to work side-by-side with artists in residence. The dinner will feature tastings of Orin Swift wines, live music and a silent auction of works by PlatteForum’s artists.  General admission tickets are $100 and can be reserved by calling Ambli at 303-355-9463; to purchase patron tickets for $225 or get more information, visit platteforum.org.

DSTILL kicks off a week of spirited celebrations today. This third annual event will highlight small batch and artisan distillers with signature tastings, craft cocktails, pop-up bars, a concert and educational workshops. The Ginn Mill is teaming up with A Taste of the Philippines food truck from 6 to 8 p.m. today for an event that will benefit the Denver Metro Fair Housing Center. A Taste of the Philippines will be providing food, there will be live music by Trevor Jones, and local slam poet Jovan Mays will perform. All proceeds from Ginn Mill and 10 percent of sales from A Taste of the Philippines will be given to DMFHC to help its mission to eliminate housing discrimination and to promote housing choice for all people. 

Tuesday, April 14

Frasca Food and Wine will hold a class on the wines of Austria as part of its of Istituto Frasca Per il Vino Series tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. Led by Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey, this class will take an in-depth look at the wines of Austria and will feature a specially curated flight that showcases the region. The class, which is limited to twenty participants, will repeat on Thursday. Tickets for the course are $235 each; call 303-442-0608 to get yours.


Tamayo is launching a new Test Kitchen Menu today featuring cuisine inspired by the foods and culture of Guadalajara. Wednesday, April 15

Lola is hosting its annual Dos Casas bash that benefits Brent's Place featuring eleven Colorado chefs and six courses. The fun and food starts at 5:30 p.m.; tickets are $186 (which houses the family of a young patients undergoing life-saving treatments) and going fast. Find more details here.

Paolo Librandi, from Calabrian's Librandi Vineyards, will be joining Firenze a Tavola at 6:30 p.m. tonight to present his wines at a Calabria Wine Dinner. Librandi will be pouring four wines, paired with a traditional — and spicy —  Calabrese meal. Reservations are $55 per person; call 303-561-0234 to make yours.

Opus Restaurant will pour a four-course wine dinner tonight starting at 6 p.m. The dinner will pit the wines of the Napa Valley against those of Sonoma. Reservations are $89 per person; call the restaurant at 303-355-5853 to make yours.

Thursday, April 16  

Today Rosenberg's Bagels will be slicing up a huge bagel for a good cause at 10 a.m.. The deli will be serving slices of a giant everything bagel with cream cheese that's roughly the size of twelve dozen bagels in one. In return for a slice, the deli is asking for donations that will benefit Warren Village, a single parent housing facility here in Denver.  

Friday, April 17  

The Denver Spring Flea is back and throwing a kick-off party from 6 to 11 p.m. tonight. The event is an all-you-can-eat-and-drink preview that will showcase some of the Flea's new changes, starting with its new location at the Bindery on Blake. The Flea will feature more than 100 vendors, ten food trucks and Fleak Out!, a collaborative beer made by New Belgium. The official Spring Flea begins tomorrow and will run from noon to 7 p.m. For more click here.  
  
Part of an ongoing "Cooking with Cannabis" series, Green Labs will host another sushi- and joint-rolling class today from 3 to 6 p.m. Just don't mix up the weed and wasabi. The class is limited to twenty guest; reserve your spot for $65 by clicking here.
