Owner Tiffany Lawson says that the bar, which opened this past weekend, is going for a neighborhood Cheers vibe -- rather than a pretentious downtown feel (unlike, say Boudoir 1434, which was once slated to open in the second floor -- with the priciest cover charge in town.)
Instead, Full Steam is focusing on sports. It's the new headquarters for Iowa State alumni, for example, and close to 250 of them showed up Saturday to watch the Iowa State-Iowa football game.
Full Steam will serve more than forty types of whiskeys and scotches, including some Colorado-made spirits, as well as moonshine and absinthe. According to Lawson, it's one of the few spots in the area to serve Templeton Rye, which is made in Iowa from a Prohibition era recipe. Fireball whiskey shots are always $3 and happy hour runs 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, with $3 drafts, wells and wine.
Full Steam will also feature a full menu that includes appetizers (nachos, chili cheese fries, stuffed pretzels), salads, soups, chile, sandwiches, burritos and tacos. And on Wednesday, a dozen wings are $5.
Full steam ahead!
