Dazbog Coffee understands that its undercaffeinated, too-tired-to-function customers may not always remember their wallets -- and so the stores are offering a payment method that doesn't require a wallet. "Everyone has their cell phone before their wallet these days," says Leonid Yuffa, co-owner of the thirty-store chain that's based in Denver and got its start at a Cherry Creek store. "And the technology is there."

While Dazbog's owners have been using the Mocapay Wallet smart-phone application for promotions since February, they added the power to pay for coffee with just a phone in May. The service is only available in Colorado and Wyoming Dazbog locations, but you can find it at all Denver spots except those at DIA, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Denver Tech Center Hilton Double Tree.

Here's how it works:

Download Mocapay Wallet, a free app available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry, then buy a gift card either in-store or through the app. Next time you're in a Dazbog store, open the app, follow the instructions to generate a pay code, and show that to the clerk. The clerk uses the code as payment and you get coffee (or whatever else), no wallet necessary.

Think of it as a Starbucks Card, without the card.

The program also allows you to check your balance, find the nearest location, and give virtual gift cards on your phone.
