Things are gearing up for 2012; this weekend, the Quaker Oat Festival in Lafayette and the Chef's Confluence are both taking place, and there's plenty more on the menu until then. Here's a taste:

Monday, January 9:

Frasca Food and Wine, 1738 Pearl Street, hosts its Monday Night Wine dinner; this week, Jay Somers presents the wines of J. Christopher. Admission is $50 and up, and reservations are required; call 303-442-6966 or visit www.frascafoodandwine.com.

Tuesday, January 10:

Rioja, 1431 Larimer Street, hosts Sips and Snacks, four tastes of selected wines with four bite-sized snacks from the kitchen. This week's theme: Bubbles. Admission is $15, and it starts at 5 p.m.; call 303-820-2282 or visit www.riojadenver.com.

Thursday, January 12:
