I've apparently been duped...for decades! During dinner last night at a red-sauce Italian joint, I ordered "homemade" spaghetti and meatballs, only to learn from our server that the noodles aren't homemade at all. It's a carryover, he told me, from the old days, when spaghetti -- the fat strands made with eggs -- were, in fact, actually made at home, and in restaurants. "Homemade noodles -- they're too hard to make, especially with the eggs, but every Italian restaurant still lists homemade noodles on their menus, because that's the way of the past," he said. Homemade or not, the red sauce-slicked noodles crowned with (real) housemade meatballs, were quintessentially old-fashioned -- and I mean that in a good way. Old-school Italian spots are quickly disappearing in Denver, but this joint, I'm happy to say, is still thriving.

Can you guess where I'm eating?
