Ian Kleinman Cooking Up "Science of Ice Cream" Class for Kids Today

Chef Ian Kleinman, Denver's own Willy Wonka, is constantly blurring the line between science and food with his molecular gastronomy, and today The Inventing Room will launch a series of “Science of Ice Cream” demonstrations designed just for kids. The Ballpark neighborhood dessert shop will host four demos, the first of which will take place from 11 a.m. to noon.

The educational — and tasty — demonstrations are designed for kids between the ages of seven and fourteen, and will focus on foods created with carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen. “The goal is to get kids excited about science and have them explore all of the different and interesting ways to connect science with food,” says Kleinman. “Liquid nitrogen ice cream is the focus of the classes, but these are also about encouraging kids to ask questions, like how pop rocks are created, how bubbles make their way into soda, or the science behind everyone’s favorite midnight snack: the old-school Twinkie."

Each demonstration is free; there will be additional demos on June 15, 22 and 29. Reservations are required, and space is limited to twenty kids per class, so call 303-885-2802 to save your kids a spot.  All of the young students will go home with a bag of housemade cotton candy.
