"We think there was a real need for something like this on this end of the mall, and we think we fill it," says co-owner Kevin Sloane. "Especially with the garage, bistro, open-air feel."
That open-air feel comes from the garage door-style window in front of the bar, which opens to the small patio during warmer weather and should prove a popular place to drink classic margaritas and new cocktail creations that give a slight twist to tradition.
Margs features two happy hours daily, from 3 to 6 p.m. and again from 9 p.m. to close, both with beer, margarita and wine specials. The late-night happy hour also features $1 Calle (street) tacos. Those tacos -- steak, chicken or pork, with pico de gallo, cheese and avocado -- come closest to the kind of tacos you find in upscale bars around town. But then there are the more eclectic versions. The Caprese features chicken, asiago, mozzarella, bruschetta and a citrus basil spread. The Moroccan is made with chicken, curry yogurt, slaw blend, jicama and pineapple habanero salsa.
Margs' tortillas are homemade, and guacamole, quesadillas and enchiladas fill out the rest of the menu.
As Sloane sums it up, Margs has an "upscale feel with a really value-lined, upscale flavor profile."
