On June 26, the company will host Burning Can, a festival at Sandstone Park in Lyons (where Oskar Blues was founded) featuring at least twelve to fifteen (Oskar Blues is still getting commitments) pioneering breweries - all of whom can their beers.
"It will definitely have a Colorado focus since there are so many brewers canning here now. But we will extend the invitation outside of that," says Oskar Blues spokesman Chad Melis, adding that attendees will get a commemorative glass and be able to sample four ounce pours - all from cans, of course - along with other shwag.
Colorado brewers currently canning include Oskar Blues, Upslope, New Belgium, Ska, Breckenridge, Wynkoop, Steamworks, Silverton and Pug Ryan's.Boulder Beer Company plans to being canning its Hazed & Infused by the beginning of June, while Avery Brewing will follow suit with its IPA, Ellie's Brown, White Rascal and a new beer called Joe's Premium American Pilsner.
Other new cans expected this summer are Wynkoop's Silver Back Pale Ale and New Belgium's Ranger IPA (which is already out in cans in limited quantities).
Burning Can will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. For tickets, log onto www.oskarblues.com. All proceeds will benefit the Colorado Brewers Guild.
