The special rollback menu also includes a patty melt and char-chicken sandwich. But there are also deals on the regular, happy-hour menu, which features thinly sliced potato chips served with buffalo sauce and blue cheese, and potato skins served with surprisingly flavorful green chili, sour cream and jalapenos. And the popcorn can be ordered with cayenne pepper, parmesan cheese or brown sugar.
This summer Dan Lawrence, Dave's son and the restaurant's manager, also added a summer menu with some unusual neighborhood bar fare, all under $7, including grilled watermelon skewers, gazpacho shots, bruschetta and blue cheese mushrooms. "People just like to eat light things in the summer and not spend too much," explains Dave Lawrence, adding that Dan also switched the focus to more Colorado products. "My son really cared about the quality, and it costs us more but I wouldn't ever go back and risk the quality," he adds.
When Dave Lawrence started working at the Park Centre for then-owner Don Chase back in 1995, it was known as "the million dollar bar" because back in 1986, employees and patrons had pooled their resources on a winning lottery ticket. It's certainly been lucky for Lawrence. Since he moved to Colorado from Michigan twenty years ago, his life has revolved around the place; he met his wife at the Park Centre, when she was running the karaoke nights.
The bar now features karaoke seven nights a week. "We do events where we take the karaoke equipment to Children's Hospital and just make people happy," adds Lawrence.Just making people happy: That's what Park Centre plans to do all week in honor of its thirtieth birthday.
