The restaurant space at 1560 Boulder Street hasn't been very lucky for tenants. Churchill's Public House was the first to occupy the corner spot. It opened in July 2013 and lasted just over a year, despite the neighborhood's growth and reputation as a hot restaurant zone. Next came Cibo, a Neapolitan-pizza concept from the owners of the Marg's Taco Bistro chain, which opened last April. But business has always been disappointing there; on a recent Friday night, when Lola across the street was hopping, there was just one table at Cibo. And the following weekend, the restaurant was dark. It's still closed today, despite the fact that it's supposed to be open at lunch.

Is the corner cursed, or did the two previous operations just come at the wrong time? Churchill's (which chose the same name as the famous Churchill Bar inside the Brown Palace) had to compete with another beer bar, the Ale House at Amato's, just down the block. And while Cibo struggled for customers, late last year another Italian spot that specializes in pizza, Bar Dough, opened just a couple of blocks away to almost instant success.
