East Denver got good news and bad news this month. First, chef/owner Jon Robbins, founder of Gypsy Kitchen, opened the brick-and-mortar Bistro Barbès at 5021 East 28th Avenue. But then came the news that Latke Love, its neighbor at 5151 East 28th, will be closing on May 31. That prompted one resident of east Denver to plead for help for this restaurant-starved area.

Some readers stepped up with suggestions. And then there's this from Dave Barnes:

I am going to exaggerate and say that there are no restaurants east of Colorado Blvd in Denver.

When we decided to move from Bonnie Brae in 2010, we looked at Lowry and rejected it. One of the reasons was lack of restaurants.

Having settled into Berkeley, I can say there is an abundance of restaurants on the North Side.
