The 16th Street Mall is about to get several new restaurants — Henry's will open in the Denver Pavilions on September 6, Melt will open a block away this fall. Meanwhile, two tourists from California who were dining outside at the Rock Bottom two weeks ago wound up beaten by roving mall rats — and Denver cops took fourteen minutes to respond. Into that heated environment comes a new surveymonkey poll being pushed by the city, which basically asks this: How safe do you feel on the mall? Says William:
I have lived one block off the 16th Street Mall for seventeen years without a single incident of any kind. People need to get a grip and stop making something out of nothing. If you can't handle a little reality, stay out in Highlands Ranch where everything APPEARS to be perfect.Says Jose:
I'm not sure "safe" is the right question. 16th St. Mall has many issues that make it an unappealing destination, including its poor selection of stores, restaurants and bars. They're lame. Denver should study Lincoln Road in Miami Beach and other pedestrian malls that have become successful urban destinations. I live downtown, and I would never take visitors there. But is Lincoln Road any solution? Because then there's this from Holly:
I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. 16th Street Mall is far from scary in my opinion. I feel safe - I've never had an issue there.Today is the deadline to fill out the survey, which you can find here. Share your opinions there, or in our comments section — or both.
