Stones on 32nd Pulls into Former Garage in Lower Highland

At the corner of West 32nd Avenue and Pecos Street in Lower Highland, there's an eatery built from a repurposed, semi-industrial building with a spacious outdoor patio, great views of downtown and a dozen beers on tap. Oh, and it has its own parking lot — so, no, it's not Avanti Food & Beverage. The restaurant is Stones on 32nd, and it opened earlier this month in what was previously the Sportique scooter shop.

Stones is the work of Mike Stone, a previous partner in the Trinity Grille (though he left well before the restaurant closed earlier this year) and in a string of Fatburgers that came to Colorado several years ago. The restaurant is billed as "Colorado comfort food," with a menu that ranges from homey dishes like pork green chile and baked mac ’n' cheese to more upscale fare like crab cakes, buffalo carbonnade and a $36 ribeye steak.
LoHi has become a breeding ground for hip, trendy restaurant concepts, but Stones bucks the trend with a casual interior more reminiscent of a neighborhood sports bar than a nightlife destination. Sure, there are garage doors that open onto a covered patio, but the decor is simple and low-key, other than a chairlift that hangs beneath the patio awning. It's easy to imagine the space in its former incarnations as a scooter shop and a Sinclair gas station before that.

Stones is open for lunch and dinner daily from 11 a.m. "till the party stops," according to the restaurant's website. And brunch is served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m on Saturdays and Sundays.
