On a wet, chilly day, who doesn't love a hot, salty bowl of broth ladled over a bird's nest of noodles? When the weather is like this, we're glad that Denver's ramen options keep expanding. The newest noodle bar to join the fray is The Ramen House at 2076 South University Boulevard, an ideal spot for college kids dropping in for lunch or faculty stopping in a little later for drinks, fried bites and big bowls of soup.

The Ramen House dishes nine noodle bowls, with four standard ramen configurations: tonkotsu, miso, shoyu and vegetarian miso. There are also a few Chinese-style bowls, like a spicy Sichuan beef and noodle stew, a pork rib and rice-noodle soup, and a peppery, ground-pork zhajiangmian with housemade noodles. (For those who have been following our never-ending noodle quest, this is the Sino-Japanese version of the Korean-Chinese jajangmyeon we found at P & Y Cafe in Aurora.) There are also a few appetizers, like shumai, gyoza Japanese fried chicken and furikake French fries, plus tempura shrimp and veggies.

If you're heading over, the Ramen House is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and weekends from noon to 10 p.m.

Insider tip: Don't sit at the counter unless you're really tall or you like slurping directly from the bowl. The low seats make the bar nearly at chin level for those of average height.
