When Sarah Worton and Joe Jaramillo opened the Copper Pot in July 2010 at 508 East Hampden Avenue, their motto was "comfort food times two" -- a reference to the "two families' experiences in the kitchen" that were blended in the independent, neighborhood restaurant.

But now the partners are really doubling down, opening a second Copper Pot not far away at 2796 South Broadway.

That spot as at the corner of Broadway and Amherst Avenue, and is the former home of Bites, which bit the dust in early January (and Marmalade and the Auld Dubliner before that).

"It was a really good opportunity," Worton says. "There's a patio and parking lot. It's much larger than the place we have here, and we plan to start doing breakfast on the weekends." But first, she wants to get rid of the polka dots left by the former resident.

The second Copper Pot will have a soft opening at the end of the month, with a grand opening later this spring. As with the original, Worton and Jaramillo hope to serve regional American classics in a comfortable environment.

Visit the Copper Pot website to see hours, menu and news about the second location.
