Wine Bar and Neapolitan Kitchen Brik on York Opens Today

The Italian wood-burning oven is fired up and the wine is flowing; Brik on York, Denver's newest wine bar, opens today at 3:30 pm. on East Colfax Avenue. Owner and sommelier Travis Gee took over the former Tulper's watch repair shop and converted it into an airy and welcoming space with an open kitchen, exposed brick walls and a wide variety of seating — from an expansive wine bar to cafe tables to cozy, high-backed loveseats. 

But Brik isn't just a wine bar and Italian eatery; it will also feature live music — starting tonight with house musician Brett Randell (who will perform every Thursday night), movie nights (the first Sunday of every month), a rotating art display (the first is from artist Brian Comber), and special tasting events that will focus on the world's great wine regions. Gee's idea for movie nights came because the building originally housed a movie theater in the 1930s.

The menu centers on executive chef Shoshana Frost's Neapolitan pizzas and house-cured meats but will also include a range of salads, small plates and Florentine steaks. Gee's wine program is intended to make casual wine drinkers feel welcome with an accessible range of affordable wines by the glass while offering a deep dive into wine-producing regions for more serious aficionados.  

Brik is open from 3:30 p.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, when brunch will be served with items like cinnamon rolls glazed with house-made limoncello icing and breakfast pizzas topped with Tender Belly bacon.
