Tom's Diner at 601 East Colfax Avenue displays classic coffee-shop design, circa 1967.
Tom's Diner occupies a circa 1967 building designed by Armet and Davis, an L.A. firm that specialized in the modern style known as Googie (named after a now defunct 1949 coffee shop). Already an unofficial landmark on East Colfax Avenue, the structure was just named to the National Register of Historic Places. But as it turns out, Tom's isn't the only Googie in town.
