Number 76: Chile relleno burrito from El Taco de Mexico

Ask any Denverite where to go to get a bona fide chile relleno burrito fix, and if they don't immediately point you directly toward El Taco de Mexico, then they're from Texas. Or California. Or Oklahoma. Maybe Seattle (cough). Whatever.

Anyway, El Taco's chile relleno burrito is in a class by itself, an irreproachable food high that's been one of the city's most identifiable gut bombs for as long as the don't-fuck-with-me women behind the El Taco counter have been lobbing refritos, rice, whacked meats and cleavered chiles oozing with cheese into oversize flour tortillas smothered with more cheese and their crazy good green chile and spicy salsa.

Those burritos have swelled the bellies of everyone from pimps and grave diggers to choir boys and cat walkers. And they've been my blanket, my must-have obsession, my enslavement for nearly as long as I've had my mouth open.
