No. 33: Seafood hot pot from DaLat
It's no secret that some of the best cooking in Denver happens on Federal Boulevard, Denver's melting pot of noodles and pho, street tacos and salsas, dim sum and durian. If you aren't amenable to ducking into a seedy taqueria that's roosting next to a foot massage parlor, or a Vietnamese restaurant that's parked adjacent to a liquor store that reeks of stale cigarettes, then you're going to miss out on some the most amazing food in the city. DaLat, for example. I like DaLat. A lot. Especially the seafood hot pot, although the behemoth menu -- or rather, menus, because there's more than one -- can make ordering a challenge, if only because there are so many dishes that beg for your attention. Still, while the pages go on...and on...and on, it's rare that I cheat on the hot pot, a heaving geyser of seething broth that bubbles with crushed chiles, an ocean of seafood -- all of it judiciously cooked -- crisp vegetables and astringent Vietnamese basil, one of my favorite herbs in the universe.

In late 2009, we embarked on a culinary journey that took us through our favorite dishes in the Mile High City -- one hundred, to be exact. Now we're back with round two, counting down (in no particular order) a hundred more of our favorite Denver dishes in a list that, by our imperfect calculations, should be wrapped up...before Best of Denver® 2012. If there's a dish you think we need to try, tell us about it in the comments section below, or shoot us an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
