Four definitely local and hip restaurants going into Denver Union Station were announced months ago, and construction is moving fast on Mercantile Dining & Provision, a European-style restaurant and market by chef Alex Seidel of Fruition; Stoic & Genuine, a fish house from chef Jennifer Jasinski and Beth Gruitch, the pair behind Rioja, Euclid Hall and Bistro Vendome; another location of Snooze, an A.M. Eatery; and The Kitchen Next Door -- not quite next door to The Kitchen Denver, but close. The project will also be home to the Crawford Hotel, a 112-room independent luxury hotel managed by Sage Hospitality and named after the "visionary Dana Crawford," says Hermanson.
The tenants announced today include five from Larimer Associates itself:
The stunning mezzanine, whose three huge windows overlook 17th Street, will become The Cooper Lounge, a bar with high-end cocktails and an extensive spirits and wine list. And those imbibers who don't have a view of downtown will be able to look down on the Great Hall, the restored lobby.
At the east end of the Great Hall will be The Terminal Bar, another watering hole in the space that was once the ticketing area. Not only will all those ticket windows be restored, but the bar will also have a huge outdoor patio overlooking Wynkoop Street -- right down 17th Street to Wazee, where the original Terminal Bar was once where Jax is today. This Terminal will offer over more than thirty Colorado craft beers, as well as wine.
And even Milkbox Ice Creamery will offer adult beverages. The shop, which is going into Union Station's former barbershop, will stock sixteen flavors of ice cream from Little Man Ice Cream, and since the space is covered by the station's liquor license, it can offer "boozy shakes," says Joe Vostrejs of Larimer Associates. "We're having fun with that." Also fun will be the spot's setting, which features the original large mirrors, terrazzo floor and subway tiles.
Near the Creamery will be the Eatmore Burgers & Brats Eatmore Burgers & Brats. Troy Guard, who's partnered with Larimer Associates on TAG Burger Bar, will be involved in this spot, which will focus on serving handcrafted burgers (from fresh-ground meat, of course), brats and fresh-cut French fries in a contemporary, modern setting.
Then there's Pigtrain Coffee, named for the trains that would carry truck trailers, where Denver's family-owned Novo Coffee will serve locally-roasted coffees and pastries inside a space that has a "steampunk aesthetic," says Vostrejs.
At today's announcement, three more tenants were revealed, which will complete the Denver Union Station lineup.
At Fresh Exchange, located just inside the Great Hall, local entrepreneur Willy Kellum will offer a wide variety of salads, sandwiches, wraps, bowls and more.
Anuschka Pashel will open a second location of her Cherry Creek boutique with Bloom, featuring gifts and accessories. Bloom will also have a kiosk in the Great Hall selling cut flowers.
And last but definitely not least, Tattered Cover Book Store will open a second downtown location at Denver Union Station, offering an assortment of best-selling books, magazines and other traveler favorites. And unlike the inventory at the Tattered Cover stores at Denver International Airport, Tattered Cover will be in charge of the selection at this shop, says owner Joyce Meskis.
