Celebrity-starved Denver has a new star -- and he didn't arrive empty-handed.

Pastry chef and Food Network personality Keegan Gerhard and his wife, Lisa Bailey, moved to Denver earlier this year, and today they'll unveil D Bar Desserts, their jewel-box of a bakery/dessert bar at 1475 East 17th Avenue, right next to Strings.

D Bar will open at 11 a.m. today and every day, and stay open until late in the evening, so that people heading home from a night on the town can stop off for a final slice of chocolate cake or a Rice Krispie treat. (To see if the place is still cooking, call 303-861-4780.)

For a sampling of the treats in store for Denver, check out the Food Network archives, which include a Food Network Challenge show filmed in November 2006, when pastry chefs vied to create the most marvelous cake for Keegan and Lisa's Texas wedding. -- Patricia Calhoun

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
