More than a dozen chefs from some of the area's favorite restaurants (The Fort, Root Down and ChoLon, just to name a few) will face off tonight at Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, 7711 East Academy Boulevard, at the Chefs Food & Wine Pairing Competition. The chefs were assigned two gold-medal wines (one white, one red) last week and given a sample bottle of each so that they could develop their custom dishes to pair with the wines.

The event also includes fresh sushi and sake, a champagne tower, an auction and much more. The VIP reception is at 4:30 p.m., and the pairing competition opens to the general public at 6 p.m.; tickets are $100 to $175. Visit www.denverwinefest.com/order.html.

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
