Denver Deep Dish has been operating out the back of Bar Car at Eighth and Colorado Boulevard for the past couple of years, earning lots of fans in the process. But owner and "Pizza Guy" Jason McGovern has had his eye on opening his own location for some time, and that plan is becoming reality with a new Denver Deep Dish under construction at 1200 West 38th Avenue and a liquor board hearing for the site scheduled for today at 1:30 p.m.
McGovern says Denver Deep Dish will keep serving pies at the original Bar Car location, but adds that he's looking forward to his own full-service restaurant on the edge of Lower Highland. In addition to anticipating that hotel/restaurant liquor license (which includes beer, wine and spirits) from the city, McGovern expects construction plans for the location to be approved this week, too.

Denver Deep Dish is targeting a late November or early December opening; by the time warm weather returns next spring, there will be plenty of patio seating. We'll keep you posted with updates, photos and menus once the pizza place gets closer to dishing its first slice. That will be just down the street from where Longo's Subway served Denver's first pizza pie; by then, that location will have been transformed into Sunnyside Burger Bar.
