287 Columbine Street is now home to C.R.E.A.M. It replaced Java Creek about two weeks ago, and will be doing similar, but not identical, work.

"We're going to be much more coffee-focused, doing higher-level barista work," explains barista Amanda Sapir. "Our coffee is being roasted by Coda Coffee, a local roaster of much higher quality than what was previously used here."

C.R.E.A.M., which is open from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. daily, does its own pastries and will be offering brunch from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the weekends. But its plans go much further.

"We want to be the main independently owned coffeehouse in Cherry Creek...and to be community-oriented. We'll be doing open-mike nights and will have some music soon," Sapir promises.

Locally roasted coffee? Brunch? Open0mike nights? That all sounds like a community institution in the making. Good luck, C.R.E.A.M. We're betting you rise to the top in Cherry Creek. -- Tyler Nemkov

Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
